SITS Day & Sunshine

Hooray! Today is my SITS Day!

A very special welcome to all of my SITStahs; thanks for stopping by!

For my regular readers, let me tell you a little more about SITS.

SITS Girls is an incredible online community of more than 40,000 women bloggers.

Whether you’re a newbie or veteran blogger, SITS is a great place to connect, learn, and grow.

I joined the SITS community shortly after I started blogging. I’ve learned so much from the Daily How-To’s, and I’ve found some of my favorite bloggers through the Daily Featured Blogger.

If you’re not already a part of this amazing community, what are you waiting for? We’d love to have you in the SITStahood!

You Are My Sunshine

About the time I started packing my bags for our fabulous vacation in Maine, the Sunshine Award started popping up around the blogosphere.

The Sunshine Award is given to bloggers who brighten your day.

SunshineAward

First, the amazing Charlotte at Commitness to Fitness nominated me. One day, I’m going to get an award before Charlotte so I can nominate her first!

Charlotte always brightens my day, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award. Well, except for these other awesome ladies, who also nominated me:

Thanks for sending lots of sunshine my way. It’s an honor to be in such esteemed company!

Blogging awards are a great way to learn more about your favorite bloggers. I figured I’d kill two birds with one stone and accept my nomination while telling my SITStahs a little more about me!

So here’s how the award works:

The Rules:

1.  Include award logo in a post or on your blog.
2.  Link to the person(s) who nominated you.
3.  Answer 10 questions about yourself.
4.  Nominate 10 bloggers to receive the award. Link your nominees to the post and comment on their blogs letting them know they’ve been nominated.

I picked a few questions from each of my nominations.

1. What’s Your Favorite Quote?

I can’t pick just one, but this quote spoke to me last week:

Now I see the secret of the making of the best persons. It is to grow in the open air and to eat and sleep with the earth.
~ Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass

Sisters

2. Would you rather read or watch TV?

Give me a good book any day! Especially if I can curl up on the couch on a rainy day. Or, better yet, bury my toes in the warm sand and let the hours fly by.

3. What type of shoes do you have on your feet right now?

None. One of the perks of working from home is going barefoot most days. If I have to go out, I slip on my favorite flip flops. Of course, as a runner, I have a small mountain of colorful running shoes piled up in my garage.

4. If you could live in any city in the world, where would you live?

I’m not much of a city gal. I yearn for wide, open spaces and would love to move West some day.

But, I do love the small European cities that cater to active lifestyles. I’d love to live abroad for a few years in a small to medium-sized city. I can just see my family strolling through the city center, window shopping, and enjoying ice cream at an outdoor cafe. Then we’d take the train to the Alps for some epic hiking!

5. What’s your favorite form of exercise?

Running, especially trail running. Followed closely by hiking, swimming, and stand-up paddle boarding.

6. If you had a be on a reality TV show, which one would you choose?

Amazing Race! How incredible would it be to travel the world with my husband & best friend in a competition?!

7. Which chore do you enjoy the least and why?

Do I have to pick one? Domestic diva I am not, and I avoid housework like the plague.

someecards.com - Housework can't kill you, but why take a chance?

Seriously, hiring a cleaning service ranks pretty high on my list of things I’d do if I were independently wealthy. Along with weekly massages. Heck, I’d get my weekly massage while someone else was cleaning my house.

8. If you could only use one beauty product for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

This one made me laugh. I never wear make-up, and the last time I checked, my tube of mascara was about 5 years past its expiration date. But I do love chapstick. Not sure if that’s a beauty product, but I can’t live without it!

9. Most of the clothes in your closet are from what three stores/brands?

My blog isn’t called Work in Sweats Mama for nothing, and my closet is overflowing with workout and outdoor apparel.

I’m slowly building up my Kuhl wardrobe for outdoor adventures and casual wear. Most of my work attire comes from Ann Taylor and Banana Republic outlets.

10. What goals are you currently working toward?

I’m training for the 2013 Richmond Marathon and want to run a Boston Qualifier. Some day, when my girls are older, I’d like to train for an Ironman.

I also want to continue growing my blog while exploring new writing opportunities. I’d love to attend a blogging conference next year and meet some of my fabulous blogging buddies in person.

    • SITS is a great way to expand your blogging network and connect with more amazing women bloggers! I’ve found many of my favorite blogs through the Featured Blogger, and when your SITS day finally rolls around, it’s awesome!

  1. I was so excited when I saw it was your SITS Day! And then I see a full blown Sunshine love fest – thanks for the nomination! You made my day! We have so much in common…2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9…and parts of the others too! I hope I get to meet you in person someday too! Are you going to Dallas in November by chance?! Enjoy your day today!

    • Michelle, I can’t wait to meet you some day. It’s not a matter of if, just when! We’ll have so much to talk about! What’s going on in Dallas? I probably won’t have a chance to attend any conferences this year because I’ve got some work travel coming up, plus the marathon in November, but I’d really like to figure out a conference or two for next year!

    • Laughing, I read somewhere that you should throw it away after a year! Seriously?! I guess normal people use up a tube in a year, but when you only wear it every now and then, it lasts forever!!

    • Charlotte, you should definitely join the SITStahood! It’s a great way to connect with awesome women bloggers, and you would be a total rock star on your SITS day!

    • Chapstick is a must-have, especially for runners who are out in the sun, wind, rain, and everything in between, day in and day out! And, yes, it’s weird that you like cleaning the kitchen, but I still love ya anyway!

  2. I love reading your blogs because I find out so much about you as a grown woman, wife and mother. We have the same philosophies about a lot of things. My least favorite chore right now is housework. I would also love to have someone clean my house while I am getting a massage or outside doing something fun. Not to fond of yard work, like pulling weeds and trimming, but I do like to putter with my flowers. I don’t mind cooking for special events (like when you come for a visit), but cooking every night is a drag sometimes. If I were independently wealthy I would have a chef who would prepare our meals.
    Congratulations on your nomination!

  3. Happy SITS Day!!!

Ok, I pick #3: What type of shoes do you have on your feet right now?

My answer is the same: NONE!!! Lol. Even when I did work a 9-5, I ran around the office barefoot most of the time. I’m not a shoe person and love my feet to be free!

So good to get to know you! Love the blog :D

  4. Right now I’m barefoot and in running clothes, while I sift through places to live.

As long as we’re a 3 hour drive from Enumclaw, it doesn’t matter. So, do we want to be closer to Rainier (hub found a great place that is even closer than we are) or the ocean? Do we want more land or house? Are school systems a concern, because in the long run, we’ll be on the road for much of our kids’ lives and I might have to home school?

Anyone with insight out there is welcome to share!

Oh, and we call the TV the “GDNB” which comes from Heinlen’s *Stranger in a Strange Land.* We use it only for movies and random other times.

    • Thanks for stopping by Heather! That quote was on the Baxter State Park newspaper last week, and it just spoke to me! I really want my girls to grow up with a deep love and appreciation for the great outdoors.

    • My hubby and I really should have auditioned before the girls! It would be hard to leave them now, but who knows, maybe we’ll make the Amazing Race Season 300 when they’re older! Can’t wait to read your Sunshine answers!

    • Awesome that your husband does the housework! My husband and I split everything pretty much 50/50, but the yard is definitely his domain. Thank goodness! Although I’m sure there’d be a blog post (or three) if I tried to tackle our lawn!

  5. Happy SITS Day! And congratulations on the Sunshine Award. I can definitely see why you were nominated, you deserve it! I’m definitely with you on the joy of curling up with a good book during a storm. Just last week I wrote about how I was FINALLY able to do that and how wonderful it was. I hope you enjoy your day!

  6. Great post! SITS sounds like an awesome community. I’ll have to look into it.
My quote for # 1. (because I was working on my review of Wonder this am). “When given the coice between being right and being kind, choose kind. Dr. Wayne Dyer.
And, what is the plug in for the auto comment reply? I really like that function!

  7. Thanks for the nomination – I am humbled and sunshined! I will answer the beauty question in your comments – mascara. I find it to be transforming, but not overly so. Just for a special day, you know?

And I was so happy to find it was your SITS Day this morning!!

    • Maybe we need to rally for an Amazing Race fierce mama blogger edition! Although, competitive as I am, I don’t think I could compete against all of my bloggy buddies. Maybe we just need someone to pay for us to travel the world together, do fun fitness challenges, and then write about it!

  8. Happy SITS day! Hope you had a great day! Thank you so much for the nomination! Totally made my day! I love the quote especially. And I would totally do the Amazing Race!! It’s my favourite show! Although I’m not sure I’d compete against you as you’d kick my butt in a foot race for sure (and probably every other challenge – but the travel would be so cool). I would love to attend a blogging conference next year too – I’d love to meet up with you:)

  9. Ha- #7 I am totally with you. Let’s go get facials together and spend even more money having someone clean! Hope you are doing well Nicole. I apologize for being MIA from your blog. Just have LOTS going on right now! Hope the girls are doing well and I can’t wait to finally meet you in 2 months!
